Digital Fossils
2024

Will the items we collect online survive long enough to fossilize? I’m interested in heaps of objects in online databases, with their almost-perfect, 3-D rendered shadows. To scan an object fossilizes it, classifies it. Data collection becomes a space for knowledge production. What becomes “fossilized” can be seen as a reflection of ourselves; a curated, collective conscious. As we grow and begin to move on, the digital fossil patiently awaits a new discovery. Turning in a shovel for a mouse, we navigate the online landscape, clicking to unearth pieces of ourselves. Known or unknown, and maybe long forgotten.
